The Spring 2013 Yappy Hour concluded with the Annual King and Queen of Yappy Hour. The event featured live music by Radio 80, a pet expo with many local pet-friendly businesses, and the 2013 King and Queen Pageant.
The 4th Annual Yappy Hour HOWL-o-Ween Bash was a tail waggin’ good time for dogs, their parents and dog lovers. During the event, Radio 80 played classic rock on the Riverfront Courtyard Stage. There were free samples, giveaways, drink specials, a vendor expo, a photo booth and contests throughout the event.
The trick for a treat contest was awarded to the first ten dogs that came up to the hosts and was able to perform their best trick. Another fun and interactive contest was Where’s Waldo? Waldo would be “hidden” in the Courtyard somewhere and the first pet and owner to find him, when promoted, won a prize. The last contest, which everyone was excited for, was the TWO costume contests, one for small dogs weighing in at 20 pounds or less and the other for large dogs weighing over 20 pounds. There were over 80 dogs that entered the costume contests, the largest one yet!
The pups were judged in five categories giving a total of ten winners, five from the small contest and 5 from the large. The categories were Scariest/spookiest, Cutest, Most Original, Best Doggy/Owner Duo and Best Overall. Each pup had the opportunity to showcase their costume on a “dog walk” (sort of like a catwalk) in front of the audience. The judges, doggie experts, would judge the pup on his/her appearance and the categories above. The pups who entered the contests were dressed their best and ready to win. We had devils, hippies, hot dogs (get it?), hamburgers, dinosaurs, aliens and so many other great costumes!
The vendors at this Yappy Hour included Pawfection Bakery, Pet Paradise Resort, Friends of Jacksonville Animals, Lucy Lou’s Designs, Pet Fire Rescue Signs and the Jacksonville Jaguars Champions Club. We are thankful for our donations from Cabot Cheese, San Marco Animal Hospital, PetCo and Del Monte Foods. If you are interested in becoming a vendor or sending donations please email email@example.com.
We hope everyone enjoyed their time and look forward to the Yappy Hour Christmas “PAW”ty on Sunday, December 16 from 2-5pm. There will be live music by George Aspinall, drink specials, more giveaways, free samples, vendors and pictures with Santa Claus with any pet donation or $5 contribution which will benefit local Humane Societies.
Don’t Worry. Be Yappy.

The Jacksonville Landing hosted the 4th Annual Yappy Hour King and Queen Pageant on Sunday, May 20. The winners were presented by Orina Arends, the Junior Teen Miss American Darling and Elizabeth Maddox, the Baby Miss American Darling.
The Runner-Up for King was Tyson who sported swim wear with a red visor and blue Hawaiian print board shorts. The 4th Annual King was Barley who looked very handsome in a tuxedo! Barley’s brother also entered the pageant and while he did not win, he was very proud of Barley!
The Runner-Up for Queen was Sweet Pea, an adopted dog making her first appearance to a large outdoor event! Sweet Pea looked stunning in her “Gold Digger” tank top at the pageant. The 4th Annual Queen was Ivory, who looked very fashionable with her puppy purse accessory!
Overall it was a beautiful day to be at The Jacksonville Landing, children as well as some dogs, played and cooled off in the Courtyard fountain. The Cabot Creamery donated fat-free cheese samples for everyone to try, dog treat recipes that can be made with their cheeses, and two prize packs for the pageant. Check out their Facebook page for more information on Cabot Creamery!
The vendor, Dog Days BowTique, sold very stylish collars and bandanas. Choices offered included collegiate team logos, solid colors, and multiple patterns for dogs of all sizes! There were even some collars with bows on them for the more fashion-forward pets!
