4th Annual Yappy Hour HOWL-o-Ween Bash

The 4th Annual Yappy Hour HOWL-o-Ween Bash was a tail waggin’ good time for dogs, their parents and dog lovers. During the event, Radio 80 played classic rock on the Riverfront Courtyard Stage. There were free samples, giveaways, drink specials, a vendor expo, a photo booth and contests throughout the event.

The trick for a treat contest was awarded to the first ten dogs that came up to the hosts and was able to perform their best trick. Another fun and interactive contest was Where’s Waldo? Waldo would be “hidden” in the Courtyard somewhere and the first pet and owner to find him, when promoted, won a prize. The last contest, which everyone was excited for, was the TWO costume contests, one for small dogs weighing in at 20 pounds or less and the other for large dogs weighing over 20 pounds. There were over 80 dogs that entered the costume contests, the largest one yet!

The pups were judged in five categories giving a total of ten winners, five from the small contest and 5 from the large. The categories were Scariest/spookiest, Cutest, Most Original, Best Doggy/Owner Duo and Best Overall. Each pup had the opportunity to showcase their costume on a “dog walk” (sort of like a catwalk) in front of the audience. The judges, doggie experts, would judge the pup on his/her appearance and the categories above. The pups who entered the contests were dressed their best and ready to win. We had devils, hippies, hot dogs (get it?), hamburgers, dinosaurs, aliens and so many other great costumes!

The vendors at this Yappy Hour included Pawfection Bakery, Pet Paradise Resort, Friends of Jacksonville Animals, Lucy Lou’s Designs, Pet Fire Rescue Signs and the Jacksonville Jaguars Champions Club. We are thankful for our donations from Cabot Cheese, San Marco Animal Hospital, PetCo and Del Monte Foods. If you are interested in becoming a vendor or sending donations please email scollins@sleiman.com.

We hope everyone enjoyed their time and look forward to the Yappy Hour Christmas “PAW”ty on Sunday, December 16 from 2-5pm. There will be live music by George Aspinall, drink specials, more giveaways, free samples, vendors and pictures with Santa Claus with any pet donation or $5 contribution which will benefit local Humane Societies.

Don’t Worry. Be Yappy.
